MEDICAL STUDENT SECTION
There is an extremely valuable resource that the AMA has just created for medical students and resident physicians, which covers such topics as the USMLE, Match process, residency rotations, selecting a specialty, financial management, CV and interview preparation, specialty board certification, credentialing, medical licensure, preparing for practice and much more. In order to publicize this resource and expand its reach to residents nationally, we are asking state medical associations to add this resource to their web sites. Can you add the following link to your website where you deem it appropriate? Your web site manager can hyperlink the text Succeeding from Medical School to Practice to the URL http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/about-ama/our-people/member-groups-sections/resident-fellow-section/succeeding-medical-school-practice.shtml.

Congratulations on your entrance to Medical School! The first several months are sure to be full of activities. As you begin to transition to Medical Student, I want to encourage you to begin your involvement with organized medicine. Your Oklahoma State Medical Association (OSMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) are your best advocates for our profession and your future patients. The Campus organization, OSMA/AMA, represents medical students from OU at state and national meetings several times each year. Several noon seminars and small group discussions are hosted during the school year, which cover topics not included in the medical school curriculum.
Currently the OSMA has over 508 Medical Student members. Many of those are involved in various OSMA Council and Committees. As a member you will receive important information and updates regarding various issues affecting the practice of medicine. There is also an organization for Medical Student Spouses, affiliated with the OSMA Alliance, the organization which provides support for the family of medicine. Working together, we can ensure that all Americans continue to have the best health care system in the world.
To provide you with an opportunity to learn more about our organizations, we have scheduled a Get Acquainted Student Reception with the OSMA leadership every August. As the event get closer we will provided you with more details.
The MSS is composed of AMA/OSMA student members of the University of Oklahoma. Any medical student enrolled in the accredited school of medicine may seek membership in the MSS, attend meetings of the MSS, and speak to issues before the MSS. Only members of the MSS shall have the right to vote on matters before the society, be able to hold office in the MSS and be eligible for appointment as student advisors to councils and/or committees of the OCMS, OSMA, or AMA.
For more information contact Kathy Musson, OSMA Associate Executive Director.
